Ovens and stoves split cleanly into cheap repairs and expensive ones, and the difference is almost always whether the fault is an element or a board. Elements, igniters and temperature sensors are inexpensive and usually replaced within the visit. Touch-control boards on built-in units from the 2000s are the ones that force a real repair-or-replace decision.

Self-clean cycle left the oven dead	Blown thermal fuse — self-clean generates enough heat to trip it	Inexpensive fix, but a genuinely common one. We'd suggest using self-clean sparingly afterwards.

The ones worth understanding

Built-in wall ovens

Common in Lorne Park, Clarkson and the Bramalea-era housing. Elements and sensors are usually available; touch-control boards for units from the 1990s and 2000s frequently are not, and that's the point at which replacement becomes the honest recommendation.

Old kitchen circuits

In Streetsville, Applewood and Malton's older housing we regularly find modern ranges on original wiring. When an oven trips the breaker intermittently, the supply is worth ruling out before the appliance is condemned.

Professional-style ranges

Repair or replace?

An element, igniter, sensor or hinge is worth replacing on almost any age of oven. A control board on a machine over ten years old often isn't, and on a discontinued built-in it may not even be possible. The diagnostic visit settles which of those you're facing.

My oven takes forever to reach temperature. What is that?

Usually a weakening bake element or, on a gas oven, a tired igniter that's no longer opening the gas valve promptly. Both are inexpensive parts and both get worse gradually, which is why people often live with it for months.

Do you repair gas stoves and cooktops?

Yes, gas and electric, freestanding and built-in. If you can smell gas, contact Enbridge first — appliance work comes after the supply has been made safe.

Is a broken oven control board worth replacing?

Sometimes. On a newer or premium unit, yes. On a mid-range oven over ten years old the board can cost a large share of a replacement, and on discontinued built-ins the part may not exist at all. We check availability and price before recommending anything.
